Workshop conducted at the 2014 CAADRIA Conference
The Rice Paper Quilt was a workshop run at the Kyoto Institute of Technology. It explored how doubly curved screens could be constructed out of paper patches using an incremental construction technique reminiscent of quilting.
A custom program was developed to allow participants to 'grow' their surfaces in a digital simulation. Subsequently patches were printed on local handmade washi rice paper and cut using a digital plotter before being connected together by hand.
