Entry for 2010 Sukkah City Competition
Autumn Bloom is a proposal for a sukkah, which is a temporary hut constructed during the Jewish festival of Sukkot. Three petal surfaces, sewn together out of laser-cut canvas, skin a lightweight wooden structure. It forms an private enclosure that shelters occupants from the wind, yet is open to the sky as is customary. Throughout the day, the filigree-like roof casts changing shadow patterns onto the canvas surfaces, animating the interior. The sukkah is designed to be easily assembled and uses inexpensive building materials.
